SALTAN SEA AND JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK
This is the Saltan Sea, southeast of Palm Springs. While it looks
beautiful, it no longer has an inlet, so the salinity of the water
has risen greatly, killing thousands of fish in recent years.

This used to be a lavish vacation playground area, but over the years
it has declined and is now mostly desolate with homes sitting empty.
This inlet and boat dock are no long used due the water drying up.
From the Saltan Sea we drove north to Joshua Tree National Park.
Larry by the entrance to the park.
There's a small parking area at the entrance. You can see Ted by the sign.
This is the view you see after entering the park. You have to drive several
miles through this desert area until you start to see any cactus.
Then you see thousands of them!
Larry got too close to this Cholla cactus
It bit him good! It stung really bad until the spines were removed.
The desert at dusk - breathtaking!
Larry next to a twisted cactus plant. He didn't get too close to this one.
Beautiful sunset view -- can you see the sliver of moon?
