National Beard and Mustache Competition
Bend, Oregon
June 4-5, 2010
The competition is over. Now we have to wait until 7 o'clock
for the final judging and the announcements of the winners.
People break for dinner and visit with friends in the ampitheater.
"Castro" and a long bearded punk, both from Florida.
Note the Bead Team USA tattoo on the punk's arm.
Jordan Dauby, the "American Gothic" farmer, kids around with a couple of bearded buddies.
Check out the length of this beard! You saw Sirwan Singh before in the procession.
He has the world's longest beard at 8 feet in length, according to the Guinness Book
of world records. He has to carry his beard to keep it from dragging on the ground.
The final judging was held at 7 PM and the winners were announced.
The winner of each division won a prize of $1000 in cash.
Larry McClure of Walnut Creek, California, won first place in the Mustache Division of the competition.
Toot Joslin of Carnelian Bay, California, won first place in the Partial Beard Division.
The Full Beard Division winner was Aarne Bielefeldt of Willits, California.
Sorry, I didn't get a picture of Aarne.
Winner of the Freestyle Division was Willi Chevalier from Sigmaringen, Germany.
He wore his beard in a design of three loops for the contest, but you see
him here as he normally wears it, as seen at the Friday night gathering.
John Szerszen from Portland, Oregon, won the contestants' raffle and
walked away with $1000, like the four winners in each division.
Vist the Beard Team USA
site for more information and a list of all the winners.
Despite the darking skies throughout the day, the rain held off until after the
competition was over. It was a very successful event and was enjoyed
by all. Thanks to Beard Team USA for sponsoring the competition!

Here are some final shots taken on our way home to California.
Mt. Shasta in the clouds, as seen from U.S. 97.
We stopped at Shasta Dam at the south end of Shasta Lake, now
full from all of the rain we've received this winter and spring.
You can see Mt. Shasta on the horizon over the lake.
